Planning for Disaster: Backup Power

With all of the natural disasters in the news, there is a lot of talk about prepping for storms and dealing with their aftermath.

As a Florida based blogger, I saw the lines and mad dashes for supplies firsthand. And while my particular part of the state was virtually unaffected in terms of destruction, it suffered a great impact to the power grid. Some of my personal friends and close family just got power back a few days ago– some are not so lucky.

So, while many people were preparing for physical damage to their homes (as they should), and buying lots of food and water (as they should), not many of them were thinking about a solution for a long term power outage.

On social media and from direct reports from people I work with, many complained about just wanting a hot, home cooked meal. Yes- they have a grill, but the fact they had to buy food and then throw away the unused perishables, they really struggled.

Now, I am aware that many people lost their homes and even their lives due to the two major storms that passed through. So, in the scope of things a loss of power is minor in comparison.

However, you and your family may want to consider getting a reliable source of power that doesn’t rely on the grid in the event that your area suffers in a way that is similar to the one here around Tampa and Orlando. The best option for a reliable source of alternate power is a high-power generator that you can rely on for more than just a few simple appliances.

Yamaha’s EF3000iSEB Portable Generator offers 3000w max power. So this will be able to power a lot more than a toaster.

With storm season in full swing (and snow storms season looming for our Northerners), an alternate source of power may be something you and your family need to plan for.

Until tomorrow!
