Filtering Your Water in Nature

When venturing out in nature it is vital to hydrate and to keep hydrated. Always carry all the water you will need, however things happen and you should know what to do in the event you find yourself lost and without water.

there are numerous ways to filter and purify water. We will explore one way in this article.

  1. Do not throw out your empty water bottle it can be used for filtering water.
  2. cut bottom off of your bottle.
  3. keeping the cap on the bottle, you will want to find some fine sand and then some courser sand and small pebbles.
  4. place the fine sand in bottle first
  5. place a layer of coarser sand
  6. last add a layer of your pebbles
  7. cover the cap area of your bottle with as fine a material as you can find, cloth, coffee filter, etc.

Slowly pour your found water through the sand and gravel. it isn’t the ideal way to filter sediment out of your water but it will remove the sediment and cloudiness in the water.

It is vital that you then heat the water to a boil to kill any microbes or bacteria in the water.

Easiest way to avoid this is to carry a light weight water filter with you, but the above can keep you alive in a real emergency.

charcoal from a fire can also be used in the bottle to help filter your found water. there are other ways to process water such as a water hydration system and or a dew collecting system, we will look into  different ways at a later date.
