The Best Way to Clean a Patio

With the rainy season coming to an end, you’re probably like me and have a fine layer of grime all over your porch or patio. With the humidity coming off of its highest point in the year, now is the ideal time to start cleaning up the “leftover” summer rains.

This past weekend, I spent the better half of my Saturday morning out in my backyard pressure washing our patio stones.  Now, as a warning, I live next to a small lake, so the algae really seems to collect. But, I actually had a fun time. There is something so satisfying about seeing a clean line appear in an otherwise filthy place.

To start my project, first I used an all natural, eco-friendly algae cleaner from Scotts (one that wont harm the grass or other plants). I let this soak for about 20 minutes to help loosen everything up, and then I got to work using the pressure washer.

Now, I have an older Karcher pressure washer. After about 30 minutes of pressure washing, I had to stop to give the machine a break. So, if I had had a stronger, newer unit, I feel like I could have done a quicker job– and have been more thorough.

After I came inside, and after feeling super productive that I had just cleaned up three month’s worth of grime from my porch area, I went online to look into buying a new pressure washer. Being loyal to my Karcher, I found this one on Cabella’s.

What drew me in to this model was the compact size, the assortment of attachments, and the 1,800 PSI to really blast away grime.

This item is actually on sale now, so the off season is really the time to buy.

Happy Fall Cleaning!
