How to Treat a Bee Sting

If you have ever been stung by a bee, you know how painful and irritating it can be. The itching, tenderness and swelling seem to take forever to go away.

If you do get stung by a bee, here are some tips you can use after you have removed the stinger:

Honey

Apply some honey to the affected area and leave it cover for an hour.  This is said to relieve itching and irritation and is very soothing for the skin.

Baking soda

Baking soda is believed to neutralize bee venom. Create a thick past with water and baking soda. Apply to the affected area and leave on for 15 minutes.

Apple cider vinegar

Apply a cotton ball that has been soaked in apple cider vinegar (ACV) to the affected area. Leave the cotton swab on for 15 minutes (not any more than this as ACV is acidic and can cause further irritation).

Toothpaste

Simply dab a bit on the infected area and leave on for 30 minutes. This is said to sooth the area and relieve some of the itching.

Meat tenderizer

For this, you will want to mix one part meat tenderizer with four parts of water (as recommended by health.com). This will create a thin paste that you can then apply to your sting. Leave this mixture on for about 30 minutes and then rinse it off with warm water. Meat tenderizer is said to alleviate some of the itching associated with stings due to the way it breaks down the protein that causes the irritation.

Wet aspirin tablet

What you will want to do is crush an aspirin tablet and mix it with a little bit of water. This will help to reduce the swelling and alleviate some of the itching and irritation.

These remedies are to be taken as long as you are not allergic to bees. If you are allergic to bees, seek professional medical attention immediately.

Happy Wednesday!
