How to Store and Cook Food During a Power Outage or natural Disaster

If you are without power for an extended period of time, you will need to find a way to heat and cook your food. While you can survive by eating canned goods without having to cook or heat them, you will soon want a warm meal or a hot beverage.

One of the best ways to heat or cook food is by using a grill. If you do not have a grill or if it is too dangerous to go outside to cook, you may want to invest in a portable, nonelectric stove or oven such as the one found here: https://supersurplusstore.com/product/camp-chef-outdoor-camp-oven/

Many of these ovens are safe to use indoors and will not give off any smoke or exhaust.

Another option would be for you to use a fireplace with heat safe materials. These materials may be roasting sticks or pots and pans designed for use over an open flame.

Another option you have is to invest in a flash boiling system. These devices will heat enough water for a beverage or to cook a meal. You can find one here: https://supersurplusstore.com/product/jetboil-flash-personal-cooking-systems/

It is also good to note that any food left in an unopened full freezer will not spoil for 48 hours. So, if you do have anything perishable in your freezer, you will either want to eat it right away or leave it in the closed freezer until the power returns or you intend to use it.

Remember, if you have time to prepare for a natural disaster, or any other event that could cause a massive power outage, you will want to stock up on as much water and nonperishable food as you can.

Until tomorrow!
